by | Dec 5, 2023 | Catholic | 0 comments

From a kid posting cover songs on YouTube to becoming a teen star, and finally to one of the biggest superstars today, Justin Bieber has certainly come a very, very long way. But aside from his career, he has also come a long way from what he used to be. From someone who lost his way and made every mistake possible, including those that almost destroyed him, Bieber found God and was able to turn his life around. From then on, he has been vocal about his faith and beliefs. So what exactly is his religion?

Justin Bieber is a Christian. This is evident in his interviews and socials where he shares updates about his life and openly expresses his belief in Jesus. He also shows his faith by attending churches like Churchome, Hillsong (used to), and Zoe, which are all built on the life and teachings of Jesus Christ.

Continue reading below to learn more about Justin Bieber’s life, career, and religion. Let’s also discuss what he says about God and Jesus, and how he turned his life around.

Who Is Justin Bieber?

Justin Bieber is a Canadian singer, songwriter, and pop icon who rose to fame at the beginning of 2009. He got his break by covering songs on YouTube, which American talent manager Scooter Braun accidentally stumbled upon while searching videos of another artist. Braun then arranged for him to meet Usher, who had him sign with Island Def Jam Recordings. Soon after, he released his first single “One Time” and a 7-track EP “My World”. The rest, as they say, was history.

In just a year, Bieber gained massive popularity. Not only did he release songs, he also published an autobiographical book, and was featured in a documentary film. Unlike many in the teen pop industry, which is full of one-hit wonder stars who burst onto the music scene and just fade away, Bieber was able to stick around and actually stay famous.

That said, Bieber’s career started when he was only 13 years old. He is still popular and in demand to this day.

Justin Bieber’s Troubled Past

Along with Bieber’s great success came great controversies and troubles. As he entered adulthood, his lifestyle, actions, and behavior often overshadowed his work. In 2015, for instance, he was found guilty of assault and careless driving after his ATV collided with a minivan. He was also accused of punching a fan in 2016 and hitting a paparazzi with his truck while driving away in 2017.

In 2014, Bieber pleaded guilty to careless driving and resisting arrest in Miami. He was also put on probation for being convicted of vandalism after egging his neighbor’s home. This was the same year when Justin’s old videos of using racially offensive language resurfaced and his neighbors complained to the police about his overly loud house parties.

2013 was full of drama as well. In January, he was photographed holding a marijuana, according to TMZ. Just before the month ended, a picture on Twitter showing Bieber touching his female fan’s chest went viral. Then in March, he was reportedly two hours late to his concert in London – which he disputed, saying that he was only 40 minutes late. Just after a while, he got into a shouting match with a paparazzi in London, telling him that he will “fuck him up.”

In July 2013, TMZ released a video of Bieber pissing into a restaurant mop bucket and spraying a photo of Bill Clinton with cleaning liquid while saying “Fuck Bill Clinton!” Then in October, he irritated some people by having his bodyguards carry him up the stairs of the Great Wall of China. He also made headlines in November when he was allegedly spotted exiting a brothel in Brazil.

It’s also worth noting that Bieber admitted on Instagram about doing heavy drugs at 19 and having abused all his relationships, citing the pressures of being famous at such a young age. Now, these are just some of Justin Bieber’s most controversial moments and there are definitely more.

What Is Justin Bieber’s Religion?

After living as a “pop brat” for a long time, Justin Bieber finally turned his life around in 2015, coinciding perfectly with the release of his album “Purpose”. He showed everyone that he was serious about his music again, and willing to show who he really was beyond what his label wanted to show the public. While he still had some controversial moments, he was able to rehabilitate his image and career.

However, Bieber’s path to healing didn’t stop there. By 2017, he canceled his “Purpose” world tour, asking for time to work on himself. He then started the process of realization and put in the work to fix whatever was wrong with him. In 2018, he then married Hailey Baldwin, whom he shared a long history with.

See, while it seems that their romance came out of nowhere, Justin and Hailey have been friends for a decade before tying the knot after just 12 weeks of courtship. In an interview with Vogue, the two shared that their parents – who are both born-again Christians – became friends, which then connected them. However, they didn’t have a real friendship until a few years later when they attended Hillsong.

The two then began to date. However, it didn’t work out, and they had a falling out. After avoiding each other, Justin and Hailey ran into each other again in June 2018 at a conference hosted by Rich Wilkerson Jr., pastor of the Vous Church. Within a month, Justin proposed. That said, the church plays a vital role in the couple’s lives.

After distancing himself from the Hillsong Church, Justin Bieber announced that he was part of Churchome, a nondenominational Christian church that’s built on the life and teaching of Jesus Christ. He is also known to attend Zoe Church, another Christian Church that’s popular with other celebrities like Chris Pratt, the Jenners, and Selena Gomez.

So going back to his religion, Bieber is a Christian. Thus, he is a believer and follower of Jesus. He proudly expresses this through his interviews and social media posts. In August 2022, for example, he posted a video on Instagram where he shared a prayer in the middle of a concert. He states: “God, I pray right now for every fear, every insecurity, every bad thought we have about ourselves or someone else. We just release that right now in the name of Jesus.”

In addition, when Bieber explained his diagnosis of Ramsay Hunt Syndrome, he declared that his faith helped him get through such a difficult time. He says: “It’s gonna be okay and I have hope. I trust God and I trust that it’s all for a reason.”
